Amsterdam-based speech AI startup Reson8 has secured EUR 5 million in pre-seed funding to enhance its customizable speech-to-text platform, positioning itself against established automatic speech recognition (ASR) solutions. The funding round, led by Balderton Capital with participation from NP-Hard Ventures, aims to develop a platform that adapts to unique customer language needs without the need for finetuning or retraining.

Reson8’s focus on hyper-specific models caters to the linguistic diversity of Europe, where languages like Dutch often receive less attention from larger AI labs. By establishing a Europe-hosted technology stack and leveraging local engineering talent, the company aims to address the specific challenges of European languages while aligning with regional privacy standards. Currently supporting over 20 languages, Reson8 plans to offer tailored solutions for verticalized companies, emphasizing its commitment to delivering effective speech models for various use cases.

For localization professionals, Reson8’s approach highlights the growing demand for adaptive language technologies that cater to niche markets, underscoring the importance of linguistic diversity in the evolving landscape of speech AI.
